Baritone
Brazilian-American baritone Bernardo Medeiros joined Palm Beach Opera's 2024-25 season as Count Almaviva in Le nozze di Figaro and Mercutio in Romèo et Juliette. He also participated in American Lyric Theater's Opera in Eden, workshopping two new works. Medeiros' 2024 season highlights include Zuniga in Carmen with Nashville Opera, covering Alvaro in Florencia en el Amazonas for Opera San Jose, and returned to Santa Fe Opera for roles in Der Rosenkavalier and La traviata. Additionally, he has performed with Pensacola Opera as Guglielmo in Così fan tutte, Enrico in Lucia di Lammermoor, and Frank in Die Fledermaus.
In 2023, Bernardo covered the Jailer in Tosca and the Shepherd in Pelléas et Mélisande at Santa Fe Opera as a member of the apprentice program. That season he was heard with Tri-Cities Opera and Syracuse Opera as Antonio in Le nozze di Figaro, King Melchior in Amahl and the Night Visitors, and Mr. Gobineau in The Medium.
Earlier engagements include the title role in the family performance of Rigoletto at Central City Opera, Masetto in Don Giovanni, and Jigger in Carousel at Indianapolis Opera. He sang Malatesta in Don Pasquale at BARN Opera and reprised the role at Opera Project Columbus. At Chautauqua Opera he sang Sciarrone and covered the Sacristan in Tosca, also singing Virgil Thomson in The Mother Of Us All. Additional roles include Count Almaviva in Le nozze di figaro, David in L’amico Fritz, and Horace Tabor in The Ballad of Baby Doe.
Bernardo Medeiros earned his music degrees from Oklahoma State University and the University of Houston. He resides in New York City.
